Packet Switching 2 Proxy Server

Packet Switching

The method used to move data around on the Internet. In packet switching, all the data coming out of a machine is broken up into chunks, each chunk has the address of where it came from and where it is going. This enables chunks of data from many different sources to co-mingle on the same lines, and be sorted and directed along different routes by special machines along the way. This way, many people can use the same lines at the same time.
You might think of several caravans of trucks, all using the same road system, to carry materials.

Page Update Facilities
One of the essential requirements for a successful website, is that the content should be regularly updated to ensure visitors return again and again. If you need to do this frequently on a few specific pages, then it can work out expensive, if you have to pay for update fees each time. The best option under these circumstances, is update facilities that allow you to just update specific pages rather than requiring a full database driven site.

Typically this is used on pages such as "What's New, Press, Articles, News etc. We will then connect the content of this page to a simple database file and we will create a password protected administration module that allows you to login and update the relevant page.

Page Views
The number of pages of a web site seen by customers in a given period. Page views may overstate ad impressions if users choose to turn off graphics (often done to speed browsing). Page views are
also referred to as page impressions.

Password
A code used to gain access (login) to a locked system. Good passwords contain letters and non-letters, and are not simple combinations such as virtue7. A good password might be:
5%df(29)

But don't use that one!

Password Facilities
The password module is the area that restricts access to the administration modules. This means only authorised users can access the admin areas and update the site content.

There are two kinds of password modules - basic and advanced. This item is the basic module, which just provides standard password protection for one or more users. This is sufficient for most websites unless your clients need many different users to be accessing the control panel, and need to be able to enable or disable access, or restrict access to certain areas.

Pay Per Click Search Engines
Pay Per Click (also known as Pay Per Ranking, Pay Per Placement or Pay Per Position) search engines enable you to list your site at the top of the search engine results. You pay only when a searcher clicks on your listing, and connects to your site. You don’t pay to list; you only pay for clicks or ‘click throughs’ You list your website by selecting keywords that refer to your product or service.

For each keyword you determine how much you are willing to spend. The higher you bid the higher you will appear in the search results.

PPC search engines usually combine paid listings with unpaid listings to ensure any given search produces sufficient results. Typically, unpaid listings are provided by another search engine such as Inktomi, Google or the DMOZ project.

An account with a PPC search engine is a great way to drive targeted traffic to your site, because you only pay for actual clicks to your site. It is risk free and a cheaper alternative to listing with the bigger search engines.

It is in your interest as an advertiser to find an appropriate guide who can recommend a functional PPC search engine. Searchers won’t come back to a PPC if they can’t find what they are looking for.

Pay per Click Keyword research & submission
Pay-per-click search engines have emerged as one of the most cost effective forms of online marketing available. The largest and most successful of these engines is Overture.com. To show you the potential, Overture performs more than 3 billion searches each month through its own site and its partners (MSN.com, AltaVista).

Top-ranking Overture sites now appear on Yahoo as well. You have to pay Overture only when a user clicks the link to your site and you determine how much you want to pay for each click. The higher the bid - the higher their position.

Our service involves researching the most suitable keyphrases for you to bid on. We use online tools to see what terms related to your target market are actually being searched for, then compare these with amounts being bid, to see any of
the best buying opportunities. We will then either provide a report on our findings so you can pay the PPC engines directly to open an account, or charge them the total bid amounts plus a 15% commission, to submit on their behalf.

Ping

PNG -- (Portable Network Graphics)
PNG is a graphics format, specifically designed for use on the World Wide Web. PNG enable compression of images, without any loss of quality, including high-resolution images. Another important feature of PNG, is that anyone may create software that works with PNG images without paying any fees - the PNG standard is free of any licensing costs.

POP -- (Point of Presence, also Post Office Protocol)
Two commonly used meanings:
Point of Presence and Post Office Protocol.
A Point of Presence usually means a city or location where a network can be connected to, often with dial up phone lines. So if an Internet company says they will soon have a POP in Belgrade, it means that they will soon have a local phone number in Belgrade, and/or a place where leased lines can connect to their network.

A second meaning, Post Office Protocol, refers to a way that e-mail client software such as Eudora gets mail from a mail server. When you obtain an account from an Internet Service Provider (ISP) you almost always get a POP account with it, and it is this POP account, that you tell your e-mail software to use, to get your mail. Another protocol called IMAP is replacing POP for email.

Port
3 meanings. First and most generally, a place where information goes into or out of a computer, or both. E.g. the serial port on a personal computer is where a modem would be connected.
On the Internet, port often refers to a number that is part of a URL, appearing after a colon (:) right after the domain name. Every service on an Internet server listens on a particular port number on that server. Most services have standard port numbers, e.g. Web servers normally listen on port 80. Services can also listen on non-standard ports, in which case the port number must be specified in a URL, when accessing the server.

This shows a gopher server running on a non-standard port (the standard gopher port is 70).
Finally, port also refers to translating a piece of software to bring it from one type of computer system to another, e.g. to translate a Windows program so that it will run on a Macintosh.

Portal
Usually used as a marketing term to described a web site that is or is intended to be the first place people see when using the Web. Typically a "Portal site" has a catalog of web sites, a search engine, or both. A Portal site may also offer email and other services to entice people to use that site as their main "point of entry" (hence "portal") to the Web.

Posting
A single message entered into a network communications system.

Protocol
A standard specification for how computers communicate with each other.

PPP -- (Point to Point Protocol)
The most common protocol used to connect home computers to the Internet over regular phone lines.
Most well known as a protocol that allows a computer to use a regular telephone line and a modem to make TCP/IPconnections, and thus be really and truly on the Internet.

Premium Complex Pages
Complex pages, as the name implies, consist of those requiring more work to create due to their more complicated nature. Examples of these pages include those with complex table structures; multiple nested tables; large scrolling pages of text in a single page, which needs to be arranged and structured in an easy to read format; forms such as contact and feedback forms, or those requiring multiple popup windows, that require additional coding, and pages with many images, that require extra work to ensure they are presented in an attractive way.
All these examples require far more work than a standard page, and are therefore charged at a higher rate.

Premium Standard Pages
The standard pages are suitable for the majority of pages on your website. Standard pages are the typical information pages on a website used to describe your
company, products and services, plus anything else you need to convey to the visitors. These pages consist of text content and images, presented in an attractive way that gets the required message across, in the most effective manner. This is achieved through creative use of text, fonts, colours, images, spacing and table structuring, to create an attractive appearance that is easy to read and achieves the desired result.

Press Releases
This is the distribution of newsworthy commercial information to related online and offline publications, by means of fax and email. Some of the most successful sites on the net have achieved their position through publicity. This is word of mouth recommendation, and reviews in online and offline publications.

The most effective method of taking advantage of this form of promotion is through the use of press releases. These are sent to both online and offline editors. We have a database of thousands of publishers, a release can be sent to. While there is no guarantee a release will be accepted by an editor, there are steps that can be taken to maximise the chance of success and as a single mention in a popular publication can result in enormous volumes of traffic, it is well worth the effort. A press release should contain useful newsworthy information and be written in a
newspaper like style. As with ezine articles, it must not be a blatant advert.

Press Release Copywriting
Our press release writing service will craft your story with an exciting & creative
angle that will ensure their release gets read by busy editors. Our experienced copywriters know what editors are looking for in a press release, and will craft it accordingly. This will be to create maximum impact while making it easy for the editors to use in their next issue, thereby generating a flood of free publicity to your site. All we need is a brief giving us something newsworthy that we can write about and we can take it from there.

Press Release Distribution
Our press release distribution service takes your press release and submits it to the most targeted publications for their market. We have many years' experience of getting publicity, and know what works and what doesn't. We have an extensive database of publications we can send your release to, or we can create a new specialist list if required.

Print Corporate Identity:
Whether you are a new company requiring brand development, or an established
organization wishing to refresh your brand, we will advise, design and nurture the
implementation of the company logo as your corporate identity, in both print and online media. When creating the correct logo as an identity for their corporate image, the requirements will be developed closely with you, to maximize the message of the brand.

Once developed the logo can be effectively incorporated into both online and offline media, creating a consistent identity. The website, banners and email communication can then carry the same branding as the compliment slips, letterheads, business cards. Our skilled logo artists will ensure that however the brand is reproduced, it maximises impact and awareness of your company.

Proxy Server
A Proxy Server sits in between a Client and the "real" Server that a Client is trying to use. Client's are sometimes configured to use a Proxy Server, usually an HTTP server. The client makes all of it's requests from the Proxy Server, which then makes requests from the "real" server and passes the result back to the Client. Sometimes the Proxy server will store the results and give a stored result instead of making a new one (to reduce use of a Network). Proxy servers are commonly established on Local Area Networks

PSTN(Public Switched Telephone Network)
The regular old-fashioned telephone system.
