Hacker
A programmer who breaks into computer systems for
fun, or to
expose security lapses.
HDSL
High-speed digital subscriber line, a transmission
technology also known as repeaterless T-1. HDSL
provides transmission speeds of 1.544 Mbps, up to
12,000 feet compared with T-1, which can transmit
up to 4,000 feet, before repeaters are necessary.
Like ADSL, HDSL also uses existing copper cabling.
Hit
In the context of the World Wide Web, a ‘hit’
means a single request from a web browser for a
single item from a web server. The server will count
four ‘hits’ if a web browser displays
a page containing three graphics: one ‘hit’
for the HTML page and one for each of the three
graphics. Hits are often used as a very rough measure
of load on a server- for example, ‘a million
hits a month.’ However, because each hit can
represent anything from a request for a small document
to a complex search request, the actual load on
a machine from any one hit is almost impossible
to calculate.
Host
A company providing servers and computers that run
web sites for other organisations.
HTML
Hypertext markup language is a code used to make
hypertext documents for use on the web. HTML is
used around blocks of text to show how they should
appear. HTML allows text to be ‘linked’
to another page on the Internet.
HTML Banner Ad Design
Our HTML banner design service involves creating
a banner that includes some sort of form element.
For instance a dropdown menu, directing the user
to different pages, depending on their interests,
or even incorporating a subscribe form where the
user enters their name and email address to receive
a free report or some other incentive. This is a
highly effective use of a banner, and when displayed
on a pay per click network that supports html banners
- the results are very targeted prospects who have
supplied their email address for a very low cost
per click.
Hypermedia
Pictures, videos or audio on a web page that link
to other pages.
Hypertext
Text that can be chosen by a reader (normally by
clicking) and which causes another document to be
retrieved and displayed.
