Database
Setup & Backend Scripting
If you want to have complete control over the content
of the website and the ability to update the text
and images on all pages throughout the site, then
a full database driven solution is what you need.
Our standard database driven site allows you to
access an administration module and update the content,
or upload new images.
By getting additional administration modules you
can even add new pages or sections to the site although
for anything above site wide editing and update
facilities it is best if you contact us first to
discuss your requirements.
The database set-up fee covers the creation and
set-up of the database required for a dynamic site.
In addition to this you will just need to pay for
the administration module and a password module.
If the database is part of an application - then
you will be quoted separately for the scripting
and programming required..

Automated
Search Engine Submission
With this option we will submit your website to
thousands of search engines and
directories using automated software. However, while
we provide this service, if it is what a client
wants, we don't particularly recommend it as an
effective method of search engine promotion. The
search engine can detect whether a site has been
submitted by hand or by software, and will penalise
those submitted by the latter.
Therefore, we recommend using the hand submission
services, in preference to this automated software
service. For starters the top 10 or so engines are
responsible for generating around 90% - 95% of search
engine traffic, so submitting to thousands of engines
isn't necessary. Secondly a hand submission will
ensure your site gets the position it deserves.

Hand
Submission (Top 50 search engines)
The hand submission service is the approach we recommend
for submitting your site to the search engines.
Submission is included as part of the search engine
optimisation services. However for straightforward
submission, this is the option we recommend over
the automated submission. The reason for this is,
the automated submission may actually harm your
position because search engines penalise sites submitted
by software.
The hand submission on the other hand, gives the
site the best possible chance of success, as we
maintain a database of all the submission guidelines
and criteria for the search engines, and directories
we submit to. We can therefore submit the titles,
descriptions and keywords, exactly the way the search
engines and directories want it, ensuring your client's
site gets the best possible advantage. The top 50
search engines provide the most popular engines
& directories on the Internet for maximum exposure.

Inktomi
Keywords
This is another database that it is essential to
get listed in, as part of the search engine optimisation
process. Inktomi is one of the largest online databases
available and provides results to many of the top
search engines and directories including AOL, MSN,
iWon, Hotbot and many others. In fact for many of
these partners, Inktomi is the only way to get into
their results. So Inktomi paid inclusion has become
an essential requirement for search engine optimisation.
We therefore recommend paying the low cost of Inktomi
paid inclusion for any
search engine optimisation project. The low cost
will be more than justified by the increased traffic,
and without it, a number of top search engines won't
be accessible. With Inktomi paid inclusion, then
first keyword is charged at a different rate from
subsequent keywords.

Open
Directory Project (DMOZ.org)
This is another of the most important sites on the
net when it comes to search engine and directory
promotion. Unlike Yahoo it is not the volume of
direct traffic that it can provide, but the indirect
traffic generated to your site through its partner
sites. These partners include many of the top search
engines that use the directory results from DMOZ.org
within their own results, and give a boost to sites
that have been reviewed and accepted by this directory.
The reasoning is that if they have been reviewed
by a human editor and accepted into this directory,
it shows it is a quality site.
The submission and review criteria are the same
as Yahoo except there is no fee required for the
directory review process and it takes longer than
7 days. Just as with Yahoo, we can then recommend
changes, where necessary, to minimise the chances
of your site getting rejected.
Our fee includes researching and locating the most
appropriate category, careful preparation of their
site title and description, and the submission process
itself. This is included free as part of the guaranteed
search engine service.

Yahoo Business Express
Yahoo is one of the most important sites to be listed
for any form of online marketing. The huge volume
of traffic that passes through Yahoo and the use
of it's directory by internet users to find sites
of interest, make this an essential requirement
for companies serious about their online promotion.
With Yahoo's Business Express service, a member
of yahoo's editorial staff will review your site
within 7 working days.
Unfortunately unless your site conforms to Yahoo's
guidelines, it can be rejected, and the $299 review
fee lost, because Yahoo only guarantees to review
the site - they don't guarantee to list it. It is
therefore essential that the site is thoroughly
checked prior to submission by our specialist team
who know exactly what Yahoo editors are looking
for in a site. We can then recommend changes where
necessary to minimise the chances of your site getting
rejected. We are experts at obtaining excellent
results for our clients via their Yahoo submission,
including popular categories and keyword-filled
descriptions.
Our fee includes researching and locating the most
appropriate category, careful preparation of the
site title and description, and the submission process
itself.
Domain
The unique name of an Internet site; for example
www.amr.co.uk. Here are a few examples of widely
used domains: .com (commercial), . co.uk (company
in the UK), it is an address on the web.
Domain
Name Registration
The first step to getting your business online is
registering a domain name. The
domain acts as a recognisable online brand - much
like a company name does offline. It also ensures
no one else can register that name. There are many
domain extensions from International domains such
as the most common .com domain through to specialised
and country specific domains such as .tv and co.uk
respectively. The key is to find a domain that is
relatively short and easy to remember. However,
due to the huge demand for domains, it is becoming
harder and harder to find such domains.
a) UK Domains (e.g. co.uk,
net.uk. org.uk)
b) International Domains (e.g. com, net, org)
c) Sub Domains (e.g. client.domain.com)
Sub Domains:
If you already have a domain hosted with us, then
you can setup sub domains for use with the main
domain. These could be used for different areas
of their site, different products or for different
marketing campaigns. There's no need to actually
register these domains, as they are just associated
with the main domain. We just have to set it up
on the server. An example of a sub domain format
is http://sudomain.domain.com

DSL
-- (Digital Subscriber Line)
A method for moving data over regular phone lines.
A DSL circuit is much faster than a regular phone
connection, and the wires coming into the subscriber's
premises are the same (copper) wires used for regular
phone service. A DSL circuit must be configured
to connect two specific locations, similar to a
leased line, however, a DSL circuit is not a leased
line.
A common configuration of DSL allows downloads at
speeds of up to 1.544 megabits (not megabytes) per
second, and uploads at speeds of 128 kilobits per
second. This arrangement is called ADSL: Asymmetric
Digital Subscriber Line.
Another
common configuration is symmetrical: 384 Kilobits
per second in both directions.
In
theory ADSL allows download speeds of up to 9 megabits
per second and upload speeds of up to 640 kilobits
per second.
DSL
is now a popular alternative to Leased Lines and
ISDN, being faster than ISDN and less costly than
traditional Leased Lines.
